So, you wanna hear about my day? It was really good. Like really, really good. So good that when I read 1 Nephi 17:2 the Spirit whispered plainly to me that 'THIS is why you need to bear record: because the blessings of the Lord are great upon you.'
Now when I say that the blessings of the Lord are great upon me, I am bearing testimony to His greatness, compassion, love, and tender mercies (1 Nephi 1:20). Here's a song I came across about tender mercies. I am not only talking about my individual blessings, but those of my family. My family of creation, my family of origin, my family of adoption, my Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints family, YOU as a spirit son or daughter of Heavenly Parents. This is a broad use of the term family. You might be thinking, "What do YOU know about MY blessings?" Well, for starters, you were born and you're alive. Yay! And if you're not happy you're alive, please seek help. You may be surprised to learn given the name of this blog that I can relate...therapy and psychiatry are gifts from God.
Wow, this blogging thing takes a long time! Haha. That's ok.
If you want to know more about the details of my day, keep reading. Fair warning: I am longwinded sometimes. I think that's ok with blogs. (And partly I am doing this to journal.)
Got to go on a morning walk with the hubby and the toddler. It was lovely. During our walk, I told my husband I wanted to do something outside today, like pressure wash the back deck, which is something we've been needing to do for a while. So afterward we went with the toddler and the other son who was awake at the time to a local place where hubby donated to Veterans, toddler found fun as always, and we bought a pressure washer. I "did the dang thing" in my favorite rain boots that match those of one of my favorite people because we bought ours together. If you want to know what I think about my first experience with pressure washing, it was wet. I did not do as good a job as I thought, once everything dried. I found out that this is typical. Who knew pressure washing was so hard?
One of my four sons had a good friend from school over today and I got to talk with his mother for a while. We don't know each other very well yet but as soon as she presented herself at the door I said earnestly, "You look like a queen!" "Thank you," was her simple reply. I thought that said a lot. Like, yes, I'm confident. I can accept compliments. I do look like a queen. My earring even says "Queen" so you are on point and I like you already ;)
The biggest and best thing of today was that my oldest son came home from Young Men camp. He had been gone since Wednesday (today is Saturday) and we missed him. We also had a lot of fun without him, but not only because he wasn't there. He had a lot of fun without us, and we are happy for him.
He and I went to Chick-fil-A per his request and had the best time. Before we left I felt an unusual urge to pray. I ended up thanking God for him being home, safe, and together with us. For keeping him protected and helping him have a good time. I asked Him to bless us with His spirit. And His spirit came. Kid had me in stitches! I could barely remember how to get to Goodwill from where we were because I was laughing so hard, but I silently looked to the Lord for help and slowly turned the direction I thought we should go, which resulted in me realizing exactly where we were in relation to where we were going. We dropped off some items. The attendant made me smile. We returned with lemonade for all and I enjoyed visiting a bit with my neighbor, to whose home the kids had migrated.
We got a call from my father in law around 6:00 that he needed help nearby with a project. He likely joked in that but-really-I-mean-it way with my husband that he would feel like passing out and then a nice breeze would refresh him. So the five of us hightailed it along with some nourishment while the oldest son caught up on some sleep. I got to create an assembly line of wood logs in a pickup, run full speed against my son who had the audacity to ask, "Are we racing now?" to eat blackberries off the bush, work with two of my sons to put some bricks in a wheelbarrow, ride in a humongous old dump truck that we affectionately call the bump truck, and hug my father in law's sweet sister, who said that she would have to do something special for the boys for finishing those bricks for her.
My husband and I have the pleasure of renting out an apartment to a young couple engaged to be married. While we were checking on a needed repair, we asked what they were up to tonight. This led to a game of wiffleball in the front yard, cookies and milk in our kitchen, and good conversation.
And that pretty much sums up my day. Awesome possum.
